CLASP Supports Climate Action in Australia
CLASP kicks off work in Australia to strengthen climate-friendly efficient appliances through policy advancement.
In recent years, Australia’s government has indicated a resolve to make major improvements to national and regional appliance energy efficiency. The country has committed to hitting Net Zero by 2050 and is prioritizing decarbonization.
In late 2024, CLASP kicked off a historic partnership with Australian policymakers, marking the organization’s first expansion into the Oceania region. CLASP is supporting the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water in efforts to accelerate policy progress, including supporting a long-term strategic plan for improving the efficiency and performance of priority appliances such as lighting, motors, and water heaters.
Policy wins in Australia will have extensive spillover effects across the region as New Zealand and several close island nations adopt or tend to comply with Australian policies. Efficient appliances offer the solutions the region needs to combat the intensifying climate crisis and promote adaption and resilience in the face of a rapidly warming world.
