CLASP Announces Sam Grant as New Director of Clean Energy Access

CLASP is thrilled to announce Sam Grant as the new Director of CLASP’s Clean Energy Access programs. In this role, Sam will lead efforts to promote high performing appliances that enable access to clean energy for the world’s poorest people, boosting incomes, reducing carbon emissions, and improving quality of life. CLASP’s efforts in this area include the Global LEAP Awards, Efficiency for Access Coalition, and the newly announced VeraSol quality assurance program.

Sam joined CLASP in 2017 as the sole team member in Africa and has since supported the recruitment and guidance of an impactful team in Nairobi. In addition to leading the expansion of CLASP’s core programmatic impact in sub-Saharan Africa, he has helped launch new work around electric cooking, off-grid cold chain technology, and electronic waste.

“We are absolutely thrilled that Sam has taken on this new role. He approaches his work with admirable zeal and inclusivity, forging new connections and developing partnerships everywhere he goes,” said Christine Egan, CLASP’s Chief Executive Officer. “It is always a pleasure to promote from within and Sam has certainly earned it.”

Highly-efficient, cost-effective solar solutions make it possible for un- and under-electrified households and businesses to access modern energy services and improve their lives. Sam is committed to the delivery of quality energy services around the globe and leverages 12 years of experience in clean cooking, energy efficiency, and off-grid energy markets. He has extensive experience working in East Africa, as well as Papua New Guinea, and Mongolia—where he launched the home energy efficiency financing unit at XacBank.

Earlier this year, CLASP introduced James Wakaba as the new Director of our East Africa office. Read more about his new role here.
