South America

South America is home to over 430 million people. Affordable, efficient appliances are essential for communities to thrive in urban and rural settings. CLASP works with policymakers, manufacturers, and utilities to extend the benefits of energy-efficient appliances across the region.

How does appliance efficiency benefit South America?

Accessible, affordable, and energy-efficient appliances offer people the chance to turn energy into opportunity. In the face of rising electricity demand, frequent heat waves, and economic inequality, energy-efficient appliances help households and businesses slash energy bills while simultaneously reducing strain on the power grid. Energy efficiency a key strategy for climate resilience and social equity.

In Brazil, CLASP works to improve access to efficient appliances critical for daily life, including refrigerators, air conditioners, fans, electric motors, lighting products, and water heaters (boilers). Through research, policy support, and market engagement, our team in São Paulo works alongside government agencies, utilities, and industry partners to improve appliance performance, remove inefficient models from the market, and ensure that energy savings reach all consumers, especially low-income households.
