Pakistan
Pakistan’s growing energy demand presents a timely opportunity to scale up appliance efficiency, supporting energy access, cutting costs, and contributing to national climate and energy goals.
CLASP's impactful work in Pakistan
- CLASP supported the development of Pakistan’s first-ever energy label for electric fans, laying the groundwork for market transformation.
- CLASP assisted in the development of Pakistan’s first electric motor policies, which were officially adopted in 2024.
- Projections from CLASP’s motor industry accelerator program show potential savings of 12.8 Mt of CO2 emissions in Pakistan by 2050 and improve motor efficiency by 10%.

How does appliance efficiency benefit Pakistan?
Pakistan’s rapidly rising energy demand underscores the urgent need for energy-efficient appliances. People lack reliable power access, and high electricity costs strain households and industries alike. Appliance efficiency is critical to reducing demand, improving affordability, and strengthening energy security.
CLASP partners with the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA), Punjab Energy Efficiency Authority (PEECA), SAMA^Verte, federal ministries, local manufacturers, and industry associations to improve appliance policies and transform markets in Pakistan. Our work supports the development and implementation of appliance efficiency policies, labeling, testing, and compliance frameworks across sectors.
In partnership with SAMA^Verte, CLASP runs the Industry Accelerator Program, an initiative that seeks to reduce energy consumption, lower CO2 emissions, and strengthen the competitiveness of Pakistan’s electric motor industry. Launched in 2022, the program helps local manufacturers prototype and commercialize efficient motors for industries. In its second edition, the program is expanding to improve single-phase motors, enhance production techniques, and strengthen testing lab infrastructure.
We also engage in market assessments, lab testing, and awareness campaigns to identify inefficiencies, enforce standards, and drive consumer demand for high-efficiency products, positioning appliance efficiency as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s energy-secure future.
