Indonesia
As one of the world’s top 20 emitters, Indonesia plays a pivotal role in the global climate effort. Smarter appliance efficiency policies, shaped by data and collaborative efforts, are helping the country to meet its climate goals.
CLASP’s impactful work in Indonesia
- A CLASP-supported 2020 survey found that the top 10 electricity-using appliances account for 98% of Indonesia’s residential electricity consumption.
- With technical support from CLASP, the Indonesian government introduced efficiency policies for seven appliances: fan, TV, refrigerator, air conditioner, rice cooker, LED lamp, and refrigerated display case.
- The above policies are expected to cut CO2 emissions in Indonesia by 100 megatons (Mt) and save 136 terawatt-hours of energy by 2030.

How does appliance efficiency benefit Indonesia?
Composed of over 17,000 islands and home to over 280 million people, Indonesia is increasing its focus on energy efficiency to manage rising energy demand and meet national climate goals.
In Indonesia, CLASP provides technical support to develop appliance efficiency policies, enhances compliance through a digital platform to flag high-risk products, and promotes market transformation through collaboration with government, industry, and other key stakeholders.
CLASP continues to support the advancement of appliance efficiency policies, including conducting a comparative testing study for air conditioners and expanding efforts to the commercial and industrial sectors through appliance mapping.
