Energy Access Institutions Facility

CLASP is host and manager of the Energy Access Institutions Facility, a joint donor initiative that supports institutions essential to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7: universal energy access by 2030.

About the Energy Access Institutions Facility

The Energy Access Institutions Facility, or the Facility, invests in the organizations building market ecosystems for clean, off-grid energy.

These organizations, known as market institutions, are working to grow the distributed renewable energy (DRE) sector. DRE systems are stand-alone, off-grid energy solutions that generate and distribute renewable energy without needing to be connected to the main grid. Expanding this sector has the potential to transform lives and livelihoods by increasing incomes, empowering women, enhancing educational opportunities, improving healthcare, reducing food waste, avoiding greenhouse gas emissions, and much more.

The Facility supports market institutions advancing:

  • Clean cooking solutions
  • Energy-efficient appliances and equipment
  • Electricity for enterprises and livelihoods
  • Stand-alone solar systems
  • Micro-grids and mini-grids

The Facility is supported by British International Investment, DOEN, Good Energies Foundation, the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida), and UK Aid from the UK government through the Transforming Energy Access (TEA) Platform, and is managed by CLASP.

This material has been funded by the UK Government, however, the views expressed do not necessarily reflect the UK Government’s official policies.
