Decisionmakers lack good market intelligence on high-quality, efficient, and off-grid appropriate appliances. This knowledge gap hinders their role in developing markets for distributed clean energy. In their latest article in Springer Nature’s Energy Efficiency journal CLASP synthesizes data from the Efficiency for Access Coalition’s new tool, Equip Data, and gives readers a glimpse of the current status, efficiency and cost trends of televisions, fans and refrigerators—the top three appliances with the largest potential to scale.

Equip Data is an appliance performance database that contains a sampling of products from retail markets, distributors, and manufacturers. Analysis of platform data reveals a wide range of variation in product efficiency and slight improvements in both energy efficiency and affordability.
