Europe
More than 500 million people living in the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) rely on appliances and equipment every day. Affordable, energy-efficient technologies help lower bills, reduce energy demand, and decrease the environmental impact of households, businesses, and industry.
How does appliance efficiency benefit Europe?
As a major producer and market for appliances, Europe develops world-class efficiency standards that serve as a benchmark for policy development globally. CLASP’s data-driven research helps inform these impactful policies. We also create practical test methods that reflect the way appliances and equipment are used, ensuring accurate efficiency measurements that drive innovation.
To unlock substantial economic, climate, and social benefits, we focus on high-impact technologies, from domestic appliances to commercial and industrial equipment. In the European Union alone, CLASP has supported the adoption of 37 Ecodesign and Energy Labelling policies, set to reduce around 640 megatons of carbon dioxide emissions by 2030.
Where we work in Europe
CLASP provides data-driven research, test methods, and policy recommendations for more ambitious Ecodesign and Energy Labelling policies. Our current work focuses on computers, cooking appliances, compliance policies, displays, electric vehicle chargers, and heating and cooling systems.
CLASP supports policymakers with recommendations, research, strategic guidance, and technical expertise on cooking appliances, heat pumps, and online energy labels. We also facilitate civil society’s engagement in appliance efficiency policy processes.
