Efficient Appliances for People & the Planet

Menu

Africa

Large portions of Africa’s population, which is predicted to reach two billion by 2040, lack access to the lighting, appliances, and equipment needed to lead healthy, happy, productive lives. Increasing access to durable, efficient, high-quality appliances will reduce the continent’s energy demand, lock in sustainability and support significant economic growth.

How does appliance efficiency benefit Africa?

Around 600 million people in Africa lack access to electricity. These off-grid communities rely on costly, polluting fuels and inefficient appliances. This dated technology has high running costs, compromises health, and contributes to climate emissions.

High-quality, efficient appliances are a proven solution to these challenges. Working with local and international partners, CLASP improves access to appliances while minimizing electricity supply requirements. Predominantly focused on appliances suitable for weak- and off-grid regions, CLASP prioritizes appliances that deliver lighting, communication, cooking, cooling, and agro-processing.
