CLASP’s Regional Office in Indonesia

CLASP’s Regional Office in Indonesia has been working with the Directorate General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) since 2023 to support the strengthening and implementation of energy conservation in Indonesia through setting up and improving appliances policies, developing digitalization tools for appliances policy compliance, and supporting energy labelling campaign to increase the awareness on energy labeling and speeding up the market transformation of high-efficient appliances.

To date, MEMR has issued seven (7) appliances policies related to rice cookers, refrigerators, LED lighting, fans, air conditioners, television and showcase (refrigerated display case). CLASP will continue supporting MEMR to achieve the emission reduction targets according to their Net Zero Roadmap 2060 and the enhanced NDC through appliances policies.  To support its commitment, CLASP is looking for an Associate to be based in Jakarta.

About the Role

CLASP seeks a highly motivated and collaborative individual to join our Indonesia Program. In this role, you will help us plan and execute our portfolio of energy efficiency programs and projects in Indonesia.

The Program Associate will work collaboratively with the rest of the Indonesia Program team, as well as our team members in Europe, Africa, and Asia, conducting research, analysis, and other tasks to ensure the creation of quality outputs such as reports, memos, and presentations that support the advancement of our portfolio of energy efficiency projects in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. The Program Associate will report to Indonesia Program Lead.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Executing the program implementation tasks: conduct variety of tasks in supporting the implementation of the program, including research, analysis, report writing, and delivering presentations. The tasks include but not limited to:
    • Conduct research projects such as leading and execute appliance market studies or web scrabbing, research on existing energy efficiency appliances policies, collect data and information of the energy performance testing standards.
    • Conduct policy data analysis work, such as market research data analysis, comparing appliances policies with international best practices, reviewing the performance testing standards, modeling potential greenhouse gas emissions reductions from various policy scenarios and determining the average energy efficiency of the products in the Indonesian market.
    • Create quality project deliverables by writing through market research reports, crafting concise policy memos, and preparing presentations on research findings.
    • Provide program management support by drafting term of reference, develop workplan, track and monitor programmatic activities and outcome to ensure quality.
  • Engage and collaborate with team members and partners in Indonesia and around the world: maintain communication with relevant partners, researchers and stakeholders to understand existing energy efficiency initiatives and challenges. work closely with team members and policy makers to support the dissemination of best practices in energy policies:
    • Actively contribute to identification of strategic partnership for accelerating and optimizing the program outcomes, update database and mapping of relevant partners on Energy Efficiency in Indonesia.
    • Manage successful execution of workshops to share and discuss research findings and options for advancing energy efficiency policy and program.
    • Develop and share materials that explain Indonesia’s lesson learned and best practices in energy efficiency to the Indonesian stakeholders as well as global.
    • Coordinate and contribute to the Communication team for publishing any research findings/articles writing.
    • Represent CLASP at the relevant international and national workshops/seminars/conferences and events to promote our portfolio and mainstreaming energy efficiency.
    • Collaborate across Climate, Clean Energy Access, operations, and communications teams to support execution of projects
    • Assist the team in building and coordinating support among key constituents, including industry leaders, industry associations, implementing partners, research institutions, civil societies, government agencies, and donor organizations for energy efficiency policy development and implementation

 Key Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in energy, clean energy, energy efficiency, energy service company, public policy, green jobs.
  • Strong understanding of energy efficiency technologies, policies and markets.
  • Technical background in cooling sector, e-cooking, induction motors, electronics appliances for households, buildings, and commercial/industry sectors and/or policy advocacy experienced is preferred.
  • Bachelors’ degree in a relevant field (e.g., engineering, international relations, environmental science and policy, economics, energy studies, public policy) required or equivalent professional /academic qualification.
  • Having strong analytical skills, and the ability to translate analysis into policy recommendations is highly preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both Bahasa Indonesia and English required.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, able to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Ability to handle multiple deadlines, complete assignments independently, and develop collaborative work products in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, strong work ethic and an ability to take initiative.
