Switzerland has passed legislation that, as of 1 January 2003 made the application of EU compatible energy consumption labeling obligatory for distributors of the main electric household appliances and lamps.  The Swiss Federal Energy Agency commissioned INFRAS (Zürich) and the Institut for Economy and Ecology of the University in St. Gallen (IWÖ-HSG) to evaluate the impact over the first year of implementation. The study looks at the impact on supply and attitude of producers and distributors, end-user demand, turn-over of efficient equipment and induced energy savings. The authors were also asked to provide a global appreciation and recommendations for improvements.
