This paper compares and contrasts the current and proposed minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) levels for the USA, Australia, and Europe. It provides a quantitative estimate of the relative stringency of the proposed Australian refrigerator MEPS levels (for 1999) in comparison with those proposed for Europe (for 1999) and the 1993 US levels that were in force.
