CLASP’s Clean Energy Access Team
CLASP’s Clean Energy Access program supports ambitious efforts to increase global access to clean energy through appliance and equipment energy efficiency. We work in partnership with key stakeholders in South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, China — with support from a group various of funders.
Our team helps build healthy markets for off-grid solar products by driving innovation and sales in early-stage product markets, surfacing data and research on product performance, market trends, and consumer preferences, establishing technical foundations for consumer protection, and aligning sector stakeholders across the value-chain.
From advancing the off-grid solar technologies, bringing power to energy-impoverished people, to building climate resilience of underserved communities, CLASP’s CEA programs increase uptake of affordable, low-impact, high-quality appliances.
As our global portfolio continues to grow, we are expanding our team to help us execute our portfolio of clean energy access initiatives. About the role:
The coordinator will be a key member of the CLASP East Africa program team and will be responsible for supporting the design and implementation of CLASP’s strategy, plans, and deliverables for the Clean Energy Access program. The Coordinator will work closely with colleagues as well as external partners and stakeholders to lead the development and execution of several projects’ goals and objectives within the Efficiency for Access and VeraSol programs, and will perform a wide range of activities including project and budget development and management, stakeholder and donor engagement, program and policy planning, business development, and market and technology research, with a particular focus on off-grid c0oling technologies and solutions.
The coordinator will be based in CLASP’s Nairobi office and will work as part of a dynamic international team along with team members in the U.S. and South Asia, conducting critical administrative and programmatic tasks and ensuring the broader program team is set up to develop and execute programmatic and organizational objectives successfully.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Help maintain and improve program infrastructure: Manage day-to-day activities to keep our team organized (e.g., team meetings), improve the effectiveness of internal processes, and track program impacts.
- Coordinate! Collaborate! Repeat! Collaborate with global team members, partners, stakeholders, contractors on the scoping, design, and execution of a complex, fast-moving project portfolio.
- Support program outreach, stakeholder engagement, and reporting: Help CLASP build support among key constituents – including industry leaders, academic institutions, trade associations, government decision makers, and donor organizations – by conducting a variety of outreach and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Share our story: Contribute to CLASP, EforA, and VeraSol newsletters, website updates, social media updates, and other external communications in collaboration with the Communications Team.
- Liaise with CLASP’s operations team: Liaise with CLASP’s Finance and Operations Team and Clean Energy Access Team members on tasks that require input or approval from the operations team (e.g. RFPs, proposals, contracts, invoices, payments, etc.)
- Stay nimble and collaborative, and keep the big picture in mind: Contribute to and conduct programmatic work in support of EforA and VeraSol programs, including research, data management, product testing and shipping logistics, etc.

- 0-3 years of overall professional experience (we are background agnostic and are excited by candidates with unique and different work histories).

This role provides the opportunity for travel locally and internationally, about 5% of the time.
Compensation and Location
CLASP offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience, including fully paid health insurance for individuals and their families/dependents, provident funds and includes a collegial office environment that supports wellness and flexible telecommuting options after a certain period of employment. The selected candidate is expected to work out of CLASP’s office in Nairobi.
