Summary of Role
CLASP is seeking a consultant to join the Global LEAP Awards team. In this role, the Consultant will help CLASP design, launch and implement a Global LEAP Awards Competition for Solar Generators for use in energy constrained settings. The Consultant will support the programmatic operations of the Competition – with guidance from CLASP staff and collaborating Partners.
Background
The Global LEAP Awards is an international competition that identifies and promotes the world’s best, most energy-efficient appliances and equipment intended for use in energy-constrained settings.
Since 2014, Global LEAP Awards has run 12 competitions and challenges for high-impact and emerging technologies, most recently for walk-in cold storage units, solar water pumps , electric pressure cookers and induction cooktops . The Global LEAP Awards have evolved into a trusted global brand that serves as the de facto source of accurate, actionable information about the quality and energy performance of appliances designed for use with off-grid solar energy systems, mini-grid and areas with inconsistent grid connection.
For this assignment , the Consultant will be supporting the team in the implementation of the Awards competition with a focus on solar generators . The Consultant will perform a wide range of activities including supporting project management, stakeholder engagement and relationship development, market and technology assessments as well as data management

Scope of Work
- Maintain and improve program infrastructure: Collaborate with team members on the scoping, design, and execution of Global LEAP Award competitions.
- Schedule internal team meetings and external funder and stakeholder meetings, circulate agenda and pre-meeting materials, and develop minutes/meeting notes
- Utilize established and new tools for tracking program activities, impacts, monitoring, and evaluation
- Coordinate with CLASP colleagues, partners, stakeholders, sub-contractors, and grantees around the world to develop and implement Global LEAP Award projects and research efforts.
- Execute project activities and tasks, and other ad-hoc support needed
- Manage data collection processes both qualitative and technical
- Conduct data analysis and develop tools such as evaluation ballots for appliances
- Manage the appliance testing process, including company outreach, sampling and shipping coordination, test report review, data cleaning and analysis, and results-sharing as needed
- Support program outreach, stakeholder engagement, and reporting: Communicate program impacts and facilitate knowledge-sharing across various stakeholder groups, including industry leaders, trade associations, government decision makers, and donor organizations.
- Contribute to grant reporting on programmatic activities, collecting input from team members, reviewing, and formatting the final product
- Advise on and develop content for the Global LEAP Awards competition and other communications campaigns and activities
- Design and develop high quality and informational webinars, reports, and presentations, in collaboration with Communications Team members
- Generate market and technology intelligence: Generated knowledge products, resources, and tools to inform and inspire impact-oriented actions.
- Conduct desk research, data collection, and analysis on appliance markets, policies, and solar appliance technologies
- Ad-hoc support needed related to Global LEAP Awards
The consultant is expected to provide approximately 220 days of services to CLASP over the one-year contract period, with the possibility of renewal. Travel requirements are anticipated to total around 5 to 10 days.
Key Qualifications
Experience
- 2+ years of experience, specifically in the off-grid clean energy sector or analogous sectors preferred
- Experience working off-grid, rural, or emerging market product distribution and/or supply chains is preferred but not required
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field required (e.g., energy, environmental science, engineering, public policy, international relations)
Skills and competencies
- Ability to work across government agencies, private companies, and other stakeholders to support achievement of program objectives
- Self-directed with the ability to work remotely as part of a diverse, international team
- Entrepreneurial approach to design and execution of long-term initiatives
- Strong time management and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks under a deadline
- Ability to translate complex technical information to industry, policy, and investor audiences required
- Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with diverse project stakeholders.
Language
- Outstanding communication skills in both written and spoken English and proven ability to convey technical content in a clear and concise manner
Location
- The ideal candidate is based in Africa preferably Kenya or Nigeria

Optional At This Stage – Fill Out Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ)
All contractors must fill out the PQQ before working with CLASP. This can be voluntarily completed at the RFP stage but will be mandatory if a contract is awarded.
The PQQ is a thorough due diligence screening aimed at gathering legal and financial information on prospective partners/vendors. Contract awards are conditional upon passing the due diligence screening. Organizations that have already completed the PQQ do not need to complete it again unless the structure of the business has changed.
